Advanced Care Paramedic for the Queensland Ambulance Service

Shonel commenced her BA of Health Science: Paramedics at QUT in 2007 and graduated with Distinction in 2009. During this time Shonel worked as a student paramedic gaining valuable clinical experience throughout her study.
In November 2010 Shonel commenced her role with the Queensland Ambulance Service as an Advanced Care Paramedic and is currently still employed as an ACP II. As part of her role as an ACPII, Shonel actively participates in continued professional development, developing and presenting clinical education at QASEC and in clinical presentations at station and LASN education events. In November 2011, Shonel commenced as a sessional academic at QUT assessing Objective Clinical Structured Examinations (OSCE’s) and assignments, as well as tutoring paramedic students in both clinical sciences and public health. Shonel also one on one tutored students for the Oodgeroo Unit. In February 2013 Shonel was accepted and commenced a graduate entry Bachelor Degree in Midwifery at ACU which was recently completed in 2nd semester 2016. Shonel has also been tutorial leader at the University of Sunshine coast since 2015, primarily in the topic of pre-hospital Obstetrics, as well as teaching into the high tech Simulation course available there. In January 2016 Shonel completed a ‘Foundation of University Teaching’ course at the University of Sunshine Coast, which focused on theories, principals and methods of teaching and engaging university students. Most recently, Shonel has commenced as a lecturer A at Queensland University of Technology in 2016, whilst teaching across the course curriculum, in 2017 she is focused on developing the Lifespans unit with regard to the pre-hospital obstetrics content. Looking forward, Shonel is hopeful to pursue research goals in the area of teaching and learning, with particular emphasis on clinical education in Pre-hospital Obstetrics. |
