Emergency Nurse Practitioner

Katie is an Emergency Nurse Practitioner with 14 years of experience in a range of Emergency Departments throughout Queensland. Katie has worked in mixed departments throughout her career and enjoys working with both adult and paediatric patients. Katie is a fellow of the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA) and previously served as both a CENA National Board member, Trauma Nursing program faculty and the CENA Education lead for the college.
Katie began her career in Cairns where her interest in rural and remote nursing was ignited and has since completed a postgraduate qualification in this field as well as studies in aeromedical retrieval. She has worked from Cape York through to Menindee in Western NSW. She is passionate about fair and equitable access to healthcare for all regardless of geographical location or socioeconomic status. During COVID Katie took on the role of Executive Officer at the State Health Emergency Coordination Centre reporting to the Chief Health Officer and assisting in the COVID response for Queensland. Katie's role helped to ensure Queensland were able to maintain a functional workforce and health system during the pandemic. Katie's previous firsthand experience in disaster management was during Cyclone Yasi where her efforts earned her an Australia Day certificate for excellence in healthcare duties during a disaster. Katie is a sessional academic at Griffith University and enjoys teaching Pathophysiology and Pharmacology to student nurses and paramedics. She has received numerous teaching awards and commendations for her ability to make pathophysiology make sense through drawing and dancing. Katie is an obsessed golfer and loves to surf and ride her motorcycle in her spare time. |
