Little did anyone realise the impact that a simple gift of a little Doctor’s play set would have on the future of a 3 year old girl from Tenterfield.
Graduating from the University of Sydney in 2002 with a Bachelors in Nursing enabled the same girl to springboard into medicine, juggling work as a paediatric nurse at The Children’s Hospital Westmead with full time study Angela Burgett continued to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.
Graduating from the a University of New South Wales in 2008 Doctor Angela Burgett took an internship at the Gold Coast Hospital, before moving to Cairns where she developed a passion for emergency medicine and enrolled in the FACEM training program with a dual qualification in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
Receiving her Fellowship from the Australian College of Emergency Medicine in September 2018 was the culmination of a lifelong dream, Angela is due to complete her Paediatric Emergency training in February 2020.
Angela has worked throughout the state of Queensland gaining an appreciation of remote medicine and challenges faced by patients and staff alike.
Angela is passionate about the ongoing welfare of medical staff and has been in negotiations with numerous stake holders to improve the quality of life for the medical fraternity, further to this Angela has volunteered her time to assist candidates in preparation for exams and has acted as a peer to junior staff.
Angela’s other passions include keeping fit, baking and mothering her two cats. much to her dismay the cats appear to prefer the company of her husband, her husband prefers Angela’s company.
She still owns the very same Doctors playset, she hasn’t treated anyone with it for 2 weeks.
